Virginia Tech & Weed Control
In conjunction with Virginia Tech, Weed Control has participated in Virginia Tech's annual Ag Tech Right-Of-Way Lab program since 1992. Weed Control has been able to demonstrate to students, faculty and EPA representatives the most modern and effective right-of-way application equipment and methods available today. Our expertise and experience exemplifies the highest of standards and a concrete foundation on which to learn.
Mowing Vs. Spraying – Economics
Mowing or hand cutting does not affect the root system of a plant. A typical tree has a root system at least as large as its crown. When the top is mowed, all of the nutrients stored in the root system enable the plant to re-sprout. One cut stem can produce as many as 10 to 20 sprouts, many more in root suckering species. This increase in stem density only magnifies itself each time an area is cut. Herbicide treatments, on the other hand, reduce stem density which decreases the number of man hours of labor needed to maintain the area during the next cycle. In considering these factors, a professionally designed and executed vegetation control program utilizing herbicides remains the least expensive and most responsible option. Through constant experimentation and re-evaluation of new products and technologies in the industry, Weed Control, Inc. is able to offer a wide variety of application methods to the utility industry. We can offer a guaranteed, integrated vegetation management program utilizing any number of the methods listed under the "services" tab.
